X-rays help identify the responsible tooth and the extent of the lesion; a dark area around the root tip indicates bone loss but cannot by itself reliably distinguish a granuloma from a cyst. Retained roots and severely broken-down teeth should be assessed because they can become sources of infection. Surgically removed lesions may be sent for histological examination to rule out more serious pathology . Management may be combined with extraction, endodontic treatment/apical surgery or other procedures, depending on the tooth and diagnosis. In this historical case the tooth was too compromised to be preserved by apicoectomy. Apical surgery on lower molars can also be close to important nerve structures. Not every cyst causes swelling; some can enlarge slowly and only become apparent when infected or discovered radiographically.

This archive documents a long-established dental practice in Berg am Laim/Trudering that was refurbished after around 50 years of activity and employed 5 dentists, 4 dental technicians and about 20 staff members in 400 m². The different dental specialties were available on weekdays throughout the year, including holiday periods and Friday afternoons, with early opening from 7:30 a.m. The team looked after patients' dental problems and preventive care.
The former practice's in-house dental laboratory provided follow-up service for dental prosthetics. Rapid denture repair: Dental prosthesis repairs could almost always be completed within a few hours.
